NBN – Compare NBN Plans and Providers

What is NBN Hybrid Fibre Coaxial?

NBN Hybrid Fibre Coaxial, or HFC, is one of the several NBN connection types that use the existing hybrid fibre-coaxial network, which was previously used for pay TV and cable networks, to provide an internet connection to households across Australia.

Thanks to significant technological advancements to the HFC NBN network, customers who are on an HFC connection can enjoy high speeds like NBN 250 (Superfast) and, in some cases, NBN 1000 (Ultrafast).

Looking for a new NBN connection? Want a better deal on your internet? Well, you have come to the right place. Internet Monster and our team of professional, dedicated staff can help you compare plans and find the best deal we have available with our partnered providers.

While it might be easy to choose a plan that you think fits your personal needs and budget, it’s always wise to compare the market before making a decision. Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the NBN (National Broadband Network)?

The NBN (or National Broadband Network), is a modern broadband infrastructure installed across Australia to replace the older, existing network that was previously used to access to the internet.

Spearheaded by NBN Co., the preexisting copper wire network that was Australia’s former method of accessing the internet has been replaced by a technologically-superior alternative, known as the NBN network, which is comprised of fibre optics, satellite, and fixed-wireless technologies.

NBN is known for offering much faster network speeds than what Australians have been using previously with the older ADSL, ADSL2, ADSL2+ network and more traditional methods that provide home broadband plans.

  • Do I Need Any Equipment to Connect to HFC?

In order to get an NBN HFC connection to your home, you’ll need an NBN access network device to be installed where your preexisting cable TV line is. A technician will usually locate this during an installation appointment. An NBN utility box will be installed on the outer wall of your home. The NBN utility box is installed by NBN Co. when the network is being built in your area.

An NBN connection box will then be installed inside your home which is connected to a coaxial wall outlet and a power outlet via an NBN cable. Once all the necessary equipment is installed, the technician will usually activate your service connection. In some cases, you may be able to install the NBN equipment yourself without the need for a technician. In order to access the internet, you’ll need a compatible NBN HFC modem.

Looking to get a new HFC NBN connection and want to learn more? Call us at Internet Monster today.

  • Why Should I Compare NBN Plans?

The market is filled with NBN plans that have unique discounts, benefits, and features, and with new plans continuously being introduced, there’s no shortage of options.

If you want the best deal on your internet and don’t want to sign up with a plan that’s overpriced or doesn’t offer the best value for your money, your best bet is to shop around.

This is where we can help. We look at all of the NBN plans available to us based on our lists of recognised NBN suppliers and inspect their tariffs and services so that we can then effectively compare the best broadband or internet plans. We do the work for you, so when you speak to one of our internet experts, you’ll get the best plan we have on offer and get you connected fast.

  • Which Service Provider Offers the Best HFC NBN Plan?

Every internet provider offers something unique and different in terms of their NBN plans. And, with various benefits, incentives, and sign-up bonuses available, it’s difficult to name one provider that can be named ‘the best’. This is why shopping around and comparing the market makes sense. Instead of choosing ‘the best’ provider, go with one that offers the exact speed tier you need at a price that makes sense for you.

If you’re looking for a new internet plan or just want a new NBN connection, call Internet Monster today as we can help you compare internet plans and find the best deal we have available. Want to learn more about the different NBN connection types currently available? We can also answer any questions or enquiries you may have about a new plan.

  • What Are the Different NBN Speeds?

One of the most important parts of an NBN plan is speed. It’s important to choose the right speed as it can dictate how many devices you can multitask with, whether you can stream in high-definition or not, and more. Currently, there are six speed tiers available.

    • NBN 12 (Basic I)

    • NBN 25 (Basic II)

    • NBN 50 (Standard)

    • NBN 100 (Fast)

    • NBN 250 (Superfast)

    • NBN 1000 (Ultrafast)

There is no universal standard for the terms, speeds, and package names being used by NBN service providers when they promote their products to consumers and some even refer solely to maximum evening NBN speeds in the information provided about their best HFC plans, which may not always give you the clearest picture of the NBN network service you will be using through the course of a normal day.

If you’re in the market for a new NBN HFC plan and have questions regarding speed tiers, give us a call at Internet Monster. Our team of internet experts can provide you with an assortment of free solutions and help you find the best deal we have available within our network of partnered providers.

  • How Do I Choose the Best Location for My HFC Equipment?

Before you schedule an HFC NBN installation appointment, you’ll want to consider where you’ll place your NBN connection box and power supply unit.

Ideally, you’ll want to choose a location that has the following:

    • A dry, cool, ventilated area. your NBN equipment may become faulty if installed in a bathroom, kitchen, or laundry.

    • Close to a power outlet.

    • In the same building as the main electrical meter box.

    • A location that is accessible so you can check the indicator lights if necessary.

While the NBN technician will try and accommodate your choice of location, there are certain factors like dense walls, proximity to a power source, and other accessibility issues, that could change the room where the NBN connection box will be located. An HFC connection can offer significantly higher speeds than traditional ADSL connections because it uses coaxial cables’ higher bandwidth capabilities. Since HFC uses existing cable TV lines, it can be deployed relatively quickly and cost-effectively compared to laying a new fibre optic cable line for every connection.
