Sumo Internet Review – Everything You Need To Know
Sumo is widely known for its electricity plans – but did you know that the provider also offers NBN broadband? Sumo’s telecommunications division has a range of NBN plans for residential consumers. If you are keen on bundling or only want to deal with one provider, you can bundle your electricity, gas, and internet together – with a current monthly discount as an added incentive.
While Sumo stacks up reasonably well against other NBN broadband providers regarding plan options, it would be nice to see the telco offer better value for customers who aren’t looking to bundle their utilities. Curious to see how Sumo fares against other providers? Read below to find out.

Sumo Internet Plans
Sumo currently has three NBN plans on offer – Simple (NBN 20), Savvy (NBN 50), and Premium (NBN 100). These plans come with unlimited data, no lock-in contract, and zero setup fees. One added benefit if you’re considering Sumo’s energy and gas services is its generous bundle discount. Eligible customers can get a $15 monthly discount when they bundle electricity, gas, and NBN under one account.
With the bundle discount added, this is excellent value for an all-in-one package. However, you’ll have to decide whether Sumo’s electricity and gas plans are right for you and if you’re within the provider’s serviceability area.
Sumo NBN Features & Perks
Sumo doesn’t have many features or perks. If you’re looking for discounted entertainment subscriptions, 4G backup, and other perks, you’ll want to consider a full-service provider like Optus. Below are some benefits you can expect from Sumo when you become a customer.
Bundle Discount: Sumo offers a $15 monthly discount ($10 off of electricity and $5 off of gas) on your NBN bill for bundling your electricity, gas, and NBN. The discounted price only applies when you sign up for Sumo NBN plans on a 12 or 24-month contract with an active electricity and gas account.
Unlimited Data: All NBN plans come with unlimited data, which is great for customers who don’t want to be restricted by data limitations.
Modem Options: Customers can bring their own modem or purchase a modem from Sumo. If you sign up for a 24-month contract, Sumo will provide this modem at no extra cost to keep at the end of the contract. The current modem on offer is the TP-Link VX230V, which is pre-configured to offer a plug-and-play solution. This model supports VOIP calls, has dual-band WiFi, and supports EasyMesh.
Flexible Contract Options: Customers can choose between a 12-month plan, a 24-month plan, or a month-to-month plan. Each plan comes with a once-off activation fee.
Sumo Month-to-Month Contract: For month-to-month contracts, there is a once-off activation fee of $75.
Sumo 12-Month Contract: For a 12-month contract, there is a once-off activation fee of $40.
An early termination fee of $60 will be applied if you leave this plan within 0 to 6 months. A fee of $30 will be applied if you leave this plan within 7 to 12 months.
Sumo 24-Month Contract: For a 24-month contract, there is no activation fee.
An early termination fee of $250 will be applied if you leave this plan within 0 to 6 months. A fee of $190 will be applied if you leave this plan within 7 to 12 months. Exiting within 13 to 28 months, will incur fee of $125. And, leaving within 19 to 24 months of this contract will result in a $60 fee.

Is Sumo Internet Right for Me?
Sumo’s basic catalogue of NBN plans is a no-frills set of offers that caters to customers who are already Sumo energy customers and want the convenience of bundling their utilities. With no discount available on a month-to-month contract – only for the 12-month and 24-month terms – customers who aren’t planning to stay with Sumo for the entire contract period might want to consider another provider.
While Sumo has decent base prices, the lack of speed tier choices suggests consumers who want premium speeds like NBN 250 and NBN 1000 may look elsewhere.
If you’re looking to bundle your utilities with one provider, Sumo could be a good choice for you. However, if you’re a standalone internet customer who only wants a basic NBN connection, you’re better off looking at other providers that offer cheaper price points for the same type of internet service.
That being said, even if you are keen to sign up with this provider, it is wise to compare plans and shop around to ensure you sign up for a plan that’s ideal for you.
