This comes with a development fee of $300 that is charged by NBN Co.

If not, your telco may provide you with new equipment or an option to purchase one. It’s important to remember that before you move, make sure you leave any NBN-related equipment at your old address – NBN equipment is registered to a specific address, so it will not work or be compatible with your new residence.

If you’re still under contract with your current telco and moving to a new address necessitates terminating your contract early, you may be subject to an early termination fee. This fee generally covers the remaining months of service you agreed to in your contract.

New Development Charge

How to Move With Your Current Internet Service Provider

How to Move Home with Optus

After you provide them with your new address and moving date, they’ll help you transfer your internet service – the telco recommends giving a two-week notice before you move. Optus will first check if your new address is eligible for Optus Home Internet. If not, their team will provide you with options. Depending on the type of internet service, a professional installation may be required, which is typically scheduled by Optus. If you have an existing NBN connection, Optus aims to connect you within two business days.

Customers with an Optus NBN plan will have access to 4G backup, which will keep your property connected to the internet as long as you’re in Optus’ 4G coverage areas.

Optus requires you to take your current Optus modem with you to your new address. However, you must leave all NBN-related equipment behind as it will not work with your new address. This includes any box with the NBN logo on it, as well as the telephone and power cord

How to Move Home with Telstra

Telstra claims to be able to transfer your internet service for $0 on a standard move and get you connected fast. Telstra generally does not supply a new Telstra modem for moves unless your current modem is incompatible.

If your property has recently been built, renovated or subdivided or is being connected to the NBN network for the first time, there will be a New Development Charge of $300. Customers who have Foxtel with Telstra and want to move their service can arrange this for a $135 charge.

How to Move Home with TPG

Similar to Optus, TPG offers a convenient internet moving service. Customers can initiate the transfer process by visiting TPG’s moving home support section on their website or contacting customer support to provide their new address and moving date. TPG recommends notifying them at least three business days in advance to ensure a timely transfer. Once the request is submitted, TPG will coordinate the transfer of your internet service to your new address.

Depending on the type of service you want, the time it takes to connect to your new home can vary. TPG currently has the following time frames listed on their website:

• NBN bundle services generally take less than ten business days but can take longer.

• Fibre-to-the-building (FTTB) bundle services can take anywhere from 10 to 20 business days.

TPG states that you should leave any NBN-related equipment, including any power supply cords, behind. The NBN equipment at your old address will not work at your new address. If any equipment is missing, we’ll help organise a replacement.

According to TPG, There are no relocation fees for households with a preexisting NBN connection. However, if your property is classified as a ‘New Development’ and has never had an NBN connection, there will be a New Development Charge of $300.

How to Move Home with Vodafone

Vodafone offers a streamlined moving service that can be done either through its website or by phone. You can use Vodafone’s address checker to see if your new address is eligible for Vodafone’s home internet service. If you want to upgrade or downgrade your service, you can do so after your property is deemed eligible for Vodafone’s service. The telco recommends customers provide them with at least seven business days of notice before moving.

After initiating the transfer, you’ll want to take your Vodafone NBN or home internet modem with you to your new address and plug it in after you’ve moved in to your new address. New customers who have just signed up with Vodafone will have a new modem mailed to them. The telco advises customers to leave the NBN connection box at their old property. If you have a Vodafone Wi-Fi hub, you can access a 4G backup feature that keeps your household connected to the internet until your NBN connection has been established.

If your new address has a preexisting NBN connection, there is no additional charge for transferring your internet connection. However, a $300 New Development Charge will apply if your property needs to be connected to the NBN for the first time. Other applicable fees that may apply include missed appointment fees, cancelled appointment fees, and subsequent installation fees.

How to Move Home with Aussie Broadband

Aussie Broadband’s internet relocation service is relatively simple and straightforward. The telco offers its services through its website, and customers can initiate the transfer through the phone or on its website. Before you can relocate your internet, Aussie recommends having the following on hand:

• Your moving date,

• Your new service address,

• And your Aussie Broadband Customer Number. This is found on your Aussie Broadband Tax invoices.

Customers also can choose a new home internet plan while relocating their internet. The telco has a section that displays all plans available at the address that you enter, with the option to add a home phone plan, a mobile phone plan, and a modem/router.

Aussie Broadband does not charge any relocation fees. However, if your new address is a new build or never had an NBN connection before, it can take up to two weeks to get connected. If your property has an existing NBN connection, the process can take as little as 15 minutes, according to Aussie Broadband. If you need an appointment to activate your service, the wait time can range anywhere from five business days and up. For new builds, the transfer can take up to two weeks.

Generally, you won’t need a new modem to get connected. However, if your existing modem/router isn’t compatible with your new connection, you will need to purchase a new one from Aussie Broadband.

Moving Home With Other Providers
